In 2024 Cameron Painters & Decorators Ltd were appointed main contractor for the redecoration of Alpin House a category C listed building situated in Tain.
The original house was constructed in the 17th century and typical of that time does not feature damp-proofing so there is water build up from the ground level. This poses a risk to coatings that do not breathe with the moisture and have been known to rupture protective coatings as water tries to pass from the interior to the exterior.
One solution is to apply a silicone based masonry paint that can breath with moisture build up. The fascia, sash and case windows, and doors are finished in an opaque while the cast iron downpipes have a corrosive resistant coating.
